I know we should be in the middle of everything Halloween but I had to show you this cute Fresh Eggs Farmhouse Sign I made for my cute Sister-in-Law for her birthday!
I have to admit, I am more than a little jealous that my little brother and his family are pretty much living my dream life. They’ve got a darling (not so little) fixer upper sitting on 5 acres and the whole everything is just dreamy to me.
The best for me is seeing the photos of my cute little nephews in their boots out there exploring their world (it’s probably rude as a big sister to say my favorite thing is hearing my little brother tell me his funny mishap stories with his tractor right?….). Makes my heart happy I tell ya!
Another fun thing for me was getting to make this Fresh Eggs farmhouse sign for my sweet sister-in-law for her birthday. I was lucky enough to get to see some of the house and the decor they were putting in it before we went to visit this summer and I really felt like this sign would go perfectly with some of the decor they already had (plus I know she’s dying to have her own flock of chickens as soon as they’ve got the land and house set up just how they want it so I know she’s got fresh eggs on the brain.)
If like me and my sister-in-law you’re loving everything fixer upper, shiplap, farmhouse, etc… you’ll be happy to know I can quickly and easily walk you through creating this cute sign yourself and it’s so simple you’ll be giving them as gifts as well!
Fresh Eggs Farmhouse Sign Tutorial:
If you remember my We The People farmhouse sign (which is still maybe my favorite thing ever) the assembly for the Fresh Eggs Farmhouse sign is exactly the same except instead of vinyl I used a stencil and paint for the Fresh Eggs farmhouse sign. You can find all the materials and cut measurements here.
I knew for this sign I wanted to be able to rough it up a little bit so vinyl wasn’t the right choice but I also knew I wanted it to have nice crisp lines so I didn’t want to just freehand paint it (freehand painting is definitely not my strong suit). Enter Cricut Stencil Vinyl! I’m obsessed, it’s my new favorite thing, I’m not sure why I haven’t used it before but I’m so glad I used it for this. I was able to get the exact look I was going for!
I created my “Fresh Eggs” in Cricut Design Space, if you want to make this same sign you can find this exact cut file here. I cut out the words using my Cricut Explore Air 2 and cut them out with the Stencil Vinyl.
Make sure your paint is nice and dry before using the stencil vinyl, you don’t want it to pull off the paint when you peel it off.
As you can see I cut my stencil vinyl between “fresh” and “eggs” because I wanted those two words just a little closer together, you can do this right in Design Space if you’d rather, I just didn’t realize it until I had it cut. Also, to help make sure the stencil vinyl was straight I used letters that were the same and lined them up across the line in the middle between the two boards. I made sure the s’s were in the same place as well as the g’s. I also made sure E and F were the same distance from the mid-line to the bottom of the letter.
To help get nice crisp edges paint around the edges of each letter with the same paint you used for the back (in my case Country Chic Vanilla Frosting it’s a beautiful slightly creamy white which is perfect for the farmhouse look), this helps make sure that any bleeding that might happen is the same color the sign already is.
Once that was dry I did two quick light coats of brown for each letter. Because I knew I wanted them roughed up (slightly sanded) I didn’t need the paint to be thick or overly consistent, imperfections were a-okay.
Once the brown was about half dry I peeled off all the stencil vinyl and let it finish drying.
Once it was completely dry I used a very light grit sandpaper and went over the whole sign a little bit, focusing on each letter.
I have all the heart eyes for this sign and my sister-in-law loved it which was exactly what I was hoping for when I created it.
So there you have it, a Fresh Eggs Farmhouse Sign that absolutely anyone could create!
