With 4th of July less than a month away it’s time to start thinking about decorating your home for this fun holiday. I wouldn’t say I go crazy with decorating for this holiday but I definitely like to add some red white and blue at least to a mantle or in my case a shelf because I don’t have a mantle. This flag is a fun way to use up those scraps of material that you may have piling in your craft room and scraps of wood you might have from a leftover project. I love how easy it came together…well I should say it does come together easily just don’t leave it out where children spill their milk all over it and you have to redo half of it but that’s a whole other story.
material of your choice
square piece of wood
blue craft paint
ivory craft paing
hot glue gun
wood star ( or you could use a vinyl cutting machine to make a star)
4th of July Flag Instructions:
Step 1: Paint the wood pieces first so they can dry while you are ripping the material into strips. I found my unfinished wood square at Hobby Lobby and it was inexpensive and they had a few different sizes to choose from. I painted the wood square blue and the star cream.
Step 2: While the wood pieces were drying I ripped the material into 1 inch strips to give it that fringed look.Step 3: After the wood pieces are dry I sanded around the edges of the wood to give it more of a distressed look and glued the star on to the middle of the blue piece of wood.
Step 4: Next I lined up my strips of material and made sure the were hanging even and glued them to the back of the piece of wood using a glue gun.
Step 5: I drilled holes in each of the corners and used a piece of the red material I had leftover and strung it through the holes for easy hanging.
*If you don’t have a wood star you can stencil or paint a star on or use a cutting machine and cut one out of white vinyl.
It really is a fast craft to make. Now that kids are out of school you can have them help you by ripping the material while you paint! I’m excited the way this flag turned out and I’m glad I have one more decoration to add to my holiday collection!
