I have been kind of obsessed with World War II forever. I love hearing all the stories from that time, and sometimes I miss it. Weird, right? I miss a time that I wasn’t even a part of! When I was approached by local author, Lindsay Ferguson to review her first novel, By The Stars, I was honored and intrigued. When she told me it was set in the World War II era, I was sold! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and dive in. The best part of this novel is that it is based on a true story! That made it all the more interesting to me!
By The Stars is the story of Cal and Kate, they meet in middle school after Kate has moved to Utah from California. Cal has an immediate interest in Kate, but her beauty and kindness make her the center of everyone’s attention. The beginning of the book moves quickly to take you from their first meeting to their young adulthood. Shortly after his mission, Cal is called to the war effort in the Philippines. The book takes you through the ups and downs of his life in the war and life that is going on back home. I don’t want to give to much away because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who wants to read it!
This novel is well written with wonderful detail that will take you back to an era of honor, duty and unending faith. Because of the easiness of the story, you will get sucked in and probably finish it before you realize. By the time I finished, I didn’t want it to be over! The characters are well developed and you feel an immediate closeness to them and want to know more about their lives. While it is classified as a historical romance, I fully believe any reader with an interested in the era would really enjoy it! By The Stars is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle form, and also available at Barnes & Noble and Deseret Book. I highly recommend it! You can catch Lindsay’s Studio 5 segment here!
