So my darling sister and fellow Housewife, Jenn got me an awesome Christmas present! I'm sure you can tell from a lot of the pictures that I post that I really never do anything with my hair. It's VERY long and all one length. I love my hair but it was to the point that I would just put it up in either a clip or a ponytail and leave it like that. On rare occasions, I would curl it or go to Jenn's house and have her do it for me. :-)
Me and all my super cute boys on New Years. See...hair up in a clip!
So I started looking around at hair styles/colors that I really liked and shared them with my husband and friends to see what people liked and what they didn't to help me narrow down my choices. Here are some of the ideas that I loved.
Jenn and Josh wanted me to go short. I was preferring to keep some length on it. Mainly because it's still winter and I HATE when my neck is cold! LOL! I've had seriously short hair before...shorter than the Katie Holmes picture, but I've also had my hair down to my butt (through most of high school). I'm not really attached to my hair emotionally. It grows fast so when I do cut it, I never feel sad about it. I guess I'm lucky that way. However, I continued to put off doing anything with my hair because I'm a total procrastinator and I honestly couldn't decide what I wanted to do with it. So for Christmas Jenn got me a gift certificate to the salon to get my hair done! She knew I wouldn't make a decision so she gave me a little push to get me going. :-) So I called the salon shortly after Christmas and set an appt.
Here are my before pictures...
This is to show you length and color. Last August my mom dyed it for me while I was in Oregon. We went with Spicy Auburn Brown. :-) I really loved the color, but red is SOOOO hard to maintain. I had probably a good 4 inches of grow out. Not cute.
Here's the front. My ends were kind of dead and I had a bunch of wispies here and there that I did NOT love.
When I got to the salon, the girl doing my hair, Paige was just the cutest thing! I knew instantly that I would like her and knew she would do a good job helping figure out what to do with my hair. The first thing she says as she brushing out my hair is "I just LOVE your hair, it's SO pretty. We only need to take an inch or two off to get rid of the dead ends!" Now of course I was thinking "Yes! I can keep my long hair!" But the words of both Josh and Jenn echoed in my head and reminded me I needed to change it up. We decided on color first. She liked the red that was already in my hair and we decided to do a dark brown underneath and then weave in the same dark brown with my existing auburn to give it some lowlights and depth. When my color was done processing she asked what we were going to do cut wise. I said "I think I want 8 inches off and layers starting at my cheekbone." Paige responded with "You say 8 inches like it's nothing. The way most people say 'take a half inch off'." What can I say? Hair grows back! :-) Paige started cutting away, shaping and layering my hair. Before it was even dry I knew I would like it. :-) She finished off by curling it...which only took 5 minutes by the way! And here is the finished product.
DRUMROLL.....
It's hard to see in this picture, but I have side, sweepy bangs that hit right at my cheekbone.
And here is the back. You can see the color really well here and the layers/length. It hits right at my shoulder blades and I LOVE it. I'm seriously SOOOO happy! So a big, FAT thank you to Jenn for the awesome Christmas present!!
And don't worry...Josh was not to be out done present wise. He got me tickets to see Bon Jovi in April. :-)
PS...if you are in our area and want Paige's information, just let me know and I'll send it to you. She is amazing! :-)

I LOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa! :-)
DeleteOh wow, it is gorgeous and so are you! My hair has never been longer than bra strap length, and that was when I was in college and couldn't afford a hair cut. I have gone from pixie cut (think Jamie Lee Curtis short) to shoulder length to bob shoulder length to wedge to shoulder length to in between, to bob, and now it's back at a pixie cut, but a longer one. I really want to grow my hair out so I could curl it and make it look like, say, yours, but while all hairdressers gush about my hair and how anything would work for me, they are not the ones doing my hair on a daily basis. I was so nervous going short but I like the change and like how I now longer look like a frumpy stay-at-home-mom. Sometimes we moms just need to make a change, even if it's as simple as a hair cut and coloring. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I know exactly what you mean! It did make me feel so much better and I like that it forces me to do something with it each day...take a little time for myself. :-) It's hard though cause sometimes it's just easier to go with something that you don't really have to think about and takes up less time. :-) I have to say, I really love it. :-)
