Today is this beautiful girl’s 16th Birthday.
She’s Lisa’s daughter and I had the pleasure of taking pictures of her this week for her special day. I also am lucky enough to get to spend time with her in Young Women’s. She’s truly an amazing Young Woman. I know her Mom knows how blessed she is to have such a sweet and loving daughter but I wanted to give her a little shout out of my own. I think she’s wonderful and love her like family. Happy Birthday beautiful girl!
Today we’ll be celebrating her and making some more memories.
I have just a short little *blast from the past* to share with you today. Does ANYONE (aside from my family) remember back when the Disney Channel showed concerts on the station? Like full concerts? Like forever ago when my still loved New Kids on the Block were THE hottest thing to listen to? Back back WAAAAY back then, when me and my siblings were a whole lot younger and NKOTB rocked every radio station the Disney Channel would show their concerts and being the fans (DIEHARDFANS) that we were we would always record them (yep, on the old vcr – what would we have done with DVR’s back then?) and when my parents would go out on a date or just have to both be gone from the house at the same time us kids would get all dressed up thinking we looked a whole lot like that crew in our cool clothes (somehow my brother even had a red fake leather jacket) and would blast the TV as loud as it would go and perform the concert right along with them. We each had our band member that we always were (poor little brother Tommy always got stuck being Danny) and we would sing at the tops of our lungs. Oh we had so much fun. So much fun in fact that NKOTB will always be a favorite of mine, I made my cute friend Sarah a pair of boxer shorts (back when it was cool to wear boxers all the time as every day clothing if you were a girl in high school) out of a pillowcase that I had with Joey’s face on it and a couple years ago Nate bought me tickets to go see them when they had their 1st reunion tour (he claimed he loves me enough to buy me the tickets for my birthday but not enough to go to the concert with me) – I bought a “NKOTB Property of Jonathan Knight” shirt that I still wear maybe too often and it will probably go down as one of the best concerts I have ever been too. This year for Christmas my big brother bought Paula and I both New Kids cd’s for our stockings because he saw them and knew we’d love to have them.
I wonder if my love for the New Kids would be nearly as big if it wasn’t tied to those memories of us kids all together singing our hearts out to their concerts.
I hope one day my kids will have memories like that, of silly things they did together, maybe when no one else was around and that those memories will bond them together even more strongly and make them laugh and smile when they think of them.
The linky is now open. Again, no real rules – just has to involve your children or be a memory from your childhood (more information can be found here and here) – (please post to a specific post, not just to your whole blog) and as always feel free to just leave a comment if you don’t have a specific post to link back to. A BIG thank you to those who participated last week – we would love for you to spread the word – I look forward to sharing in your memories from the past and also seeing what kind of memories you’re making with your own kids/grandkids/nieces & nephews.
