Well, we did it!
Nate and I left the kids for the first time in 11 years and headed off to Vegas to celebrate my birthday that just happened to fall on 11/11/11 this year!
We had so much fun. The kids had so much fun with us gone (I mean really when you come home after 3 days gone and your 5 year old says “why did you come back?” you can only imagine that you were missed very little). I am so glad we went. I couldn’t have asked for better results in the end (ok, that’s a lie – we could have maybe won something :D).
Nate and I left Thursday morning after we got the kids off to school and got a few last minute things taken care of. Of course the same lovely 5 year old who wanted to know why we were back was very concerned when we were leaving that we might be *gasp* taking Uncle Timmy with us. Once he realized he was staying he said “BYE!” and was done with us.
Laugh at me now and it’s ok but we TOTALLY had no idea we were gaining an hour as we headed into Vegas – which means we had no idea we were getting there right during traffic! Vegas traffic = insane!
We finally made it to the hotel and got checked in and met up with Lisa and Kelly who happened to be celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary.
I was sadly not fantastic about taking pictures this trip and the pictures we have were usually in the dark so not the best quality but at least they’re something.
My last picture as a 33 year old!
IT IS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Breakfast at the Hash House!
We were so excited and surprised when we found a Ghirardelli shop! After our San Francisco vacation last summer and my discovered love for sea salt caramel hot cocoa it was like a special birthday prize just for me!
Nate and I took a little break and went to Paris
While Kelly & Lisa were I think…. looking for Superman? 🙂

Nate and I again
So the one thing I wanted for my birthday was a picture of us all together. It was the only time I handed my camera over to a stranger and well, since our options were few right then (I wanted the picture at 11:11) I found a guy and asked him. He took the picture and then I asked him to take a second and he did and it was all great.
When I looked at the pictures I nearly died laughing. It was the best birthday surprise! While the pictures aren’t perfect they will forever make me laugh and I can’t ask for much more than that!
Do you see what made me laugh?
Maybe this one will help…
Did you figure it out now?
Yeah – somehow a random guy decided to join in my birthday picture. That is funny enough – the fact that NONE of us noticed – freaking hilarious!!!! So thanks random dude for making my birthday picture even more memorable!
Saturday morning – our last day we had breakfast at Blueberry Hill and then went down to Fremont Street where Lisa and I in an act of rebellion got matching tattoos!
No worries – they’re only temporary and all in good fun! 🙂 Did I have you there for a second?
After our fun on Fremont street we went back to the hotel where we had to say goodbye to Theron and Gena.
Kelly, Lisa, Nate and I loaded up and headed back to the strip.
We had hopes of finding Italian food for Nate but that was a bust so instead we went and hung out at Toby Keith’s “I love this bar and grill”. The food was really good. I never got to the bottom of my nachos even with Nate’s help. After dinner we were hoping to get lucky and find more fun music at the little place we found the night before and while the music was good it was just a DJ so we headed into Ghirardelli and I had my hot cocoa and got some of their pumpkin spice chocolates before Nate and I got on the road to head home.
Lisa and I – our last little goodbye before they headed off to their show and Nate and I headed home.
How lucky am I that I was able to leave home for 3 days, have fun with my amazing husband and some of my best friends and come home to children who remained perfectly happy, healthy and safe the whole time we were gone thanks to my brother and sisters who made sure they had everything they needed.
I am blessed and so incredibly thankful to everyone who helped make this trip possible. I owe you all and can’t wait to do it again!
Next time Housewife Paula is TOTALLY coming with us!
